Over the last 15 years or so, we’ve made a bit of a name for ourselves by focusing on the ‘business’ of presentations.
While this may seem pretty obvious, most presentation blogs, books and YouTube videos obsess over the virtues of powerful design or the perfect ‘power stance’ of a presenter. Now, don’t get us wrong – we fully recognise and applaud the value these elements bring the presentation mix, it’s just we think that they should come after you’re able to answer one key question:
Why are you presenting in the first place?
Simple, isn’t it? Yet, despite it being an obvious question to ask, few presenters can string together a coherent answer. They’re unsure of their purpose. They’re not entirely sure what they want their audience to do as following the presentation.
Oh dear…
To help ensure you and your presentations start from the right place, we’ve pulled together a series of ‘Outcome Based Presenting’ videos to kickstart this new thinking. The first, quite logically, is entitled ‘Start with the End in Mind’:
Of course, this is just the beginning. The aim of this programme is to prompt presenters in all disciplines, from sales and marketing through to technical and internal comms, to place Outcome Based Presenting thinking at the centre of their strategy.
Only when we measure the success of a presentation against the outcomes it delivers, rather than the hours spent crafting PowerPoint graphics, can we truly recognise it’s ROI.
